ABF Solar's 45" diameter concentrating mirror dishes focus sunlight to a 4"-6" diameter hot spot that can develop over 1000F (537C) on a clear, sunny day, resulting in
slightly more than 1kilowatt of thermal energy per hour per dish. 1 kWth/hr.= 1000 calories, or 3,412 BTU .
A single dish can be used to directly place this hot spot onto a cooking surface, a piece of metal for annealing or tempering , or any other item you desire to heat.
We have designed a sun tracking fixture that holds two dishes, and is completely automated to track the sun throughout the day. In addition, the tracker will start up in the morning, adjust to periodic cloudy conditions, survive high wind extremes, and return back East at sundown, waiting to begin again tomorrow.
We plan to scale this design to 4 concentrating dishes, which will provide 4-5 kW/h of thermal energy at maximum temperatures predicted to be around 1600F (871C).

We are interested in conducting Beta testing for the following applications:
- Tank heating
- Process furnace feedstock heating
- Deaerator or boiler feedwater heating
- Metal heat treating, annealing/tempering, and post weld heat treating (PWHT)
- other applications where solar heating can improve efficiency.
